Free heart surgeries conducted on kid patients

In a first, the newly established State-of-the-Art Modular Cardiac Operation Theatre (OT) at the Regional Paediatric Cardiothoracic Unit, operating under the Rashtri-ya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK),' National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur, in collaboration with RIMS successfully conducted heart operations.

Mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam, RIMS Cardiothoracic Surgery (CTVS) team, led by Prof Thokchom Chito, on June 11 successfully performed surgeries on two female patients, aged three and six, who were suffering from congenital heart diseases.
Both children were discharged on June 19 following their successful recovery.
In a statement, Dr Somorjit informed that the surgeries were conducted under the government's Health Care Delivery System where patients don't have to bear the financial burden as such services are provided free of cost, thus helping their families reduce out-of-pocket expenditure.
As part of the ongoing efforts, RBSK has established regular outpatient departments (OPDs) for screening and consultation for children with congenital heart diseases at RIMS Cardiothoracic OPD every Monday from 1.30 pm to 4 pm and on every Friday from 8 am to 1.30 pm effective from April 1, 2024 .
