PRI Ad-hoc committee calls on Governor

Representatives of the Ad-Hoc Committee of All Manipur Elected PRIs Of 2017 called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhawan, Imphal, on Thursday and submitted a 6-point memorandum highlighting concerns of PRIs in the state and seeking solutions.
The 8-member team of the committee met with the Governor and engaged in a detailed discussion lasting about 40 minutes.
During the meeting, the representatives submitted the six-point memorandum.
The demands highlighted in the memorandum included the 27-month delay in holding Panchayat elections, improper implementation of the Panchayati Raj Act 2023 in the state, non-release of funds for various welfare schemes, and discrimination against PRI members.
After listening to the grievances of the committee, the Governor advised RD&PR commissioner Sumant Singh on the necessary steps to address the issues.
He also pointed out that it was inappropriate for non-elected members to oversee the activities of the Panchayat during the period when the administrative committee had not yet been formed to conduct the elections.
The committee representatives also invited the Governor to visit the panchayats and further urged the Governor to implement the Manipur Panchayati Raj Act in spirit.
The representatives included Ph Heramani, N Pradip, N Ganga, Ph Jiten, P Surbala, M Rajen, S Imo, S Rahul, A Oken and Ksh Tama.
Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides state secretary Th Heramani Singh along with other members called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
The team invited the Governor to attend the upcoming Rajya Puraskar Award, also known as the Governor's
Award distribution ceremony.
