AIMS organises symposium competition on delimitation concerns

Imphal, July 19 2025: Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) organised a symposium competition on the topic "Impact of conducting delimitation today to Manipur's future' at Kanglei-Mime Theatre Repertory, Langthabal Kunja on Saturday.

Speaking at the open sympo-siurrj competition, AIMS president Longjam Thonglen asserted that Manipur continues to be plagued by numerous unresolved issues.

He alleged that the emergence of new problems before existing ones are addressed reflects a deliberate policy by the Government of India to destabilise the state.

"This strategy does not affect India as a whole, but it deeply harms the indigenous people of Manipur", he asserted.

Thonglen further remarked that the state's challenges are compounded by a growing cultural disconnect, as many people are increasingly drawn to and influenced by the traditions of others, despite Manipur having a rich cultural identity of its own.

He pointed out the need for people to recognise and uphold their cultural roots, urging everyone to come together in unity to restore peace and harmony in the state.

Commenting on the delimitation process, Thonglen stressed that it should not proceed without resolving first the current crisis.

He warned that implementing delimitation under present circumstances could lead to further complications for the state in the future.

He explained that the symposium was organised to raise public awareness about the potential negative impact of carrying out delimitation during this period of turmoil, particularly on the indigenous population of the state.

The function was also attended by LIPUL president Thokchom Somorendro, MU Department of Economics professor Dr Chinglen Maisnam, MU Manipuri Department assistant professor Dr Naorem Sanatomba Singh and MU Teacher Education Department assistant professor Dr Koijam Sobita as presidium members.

Altogether, 28 contestants took part in the symposium and Moirangthem Amarjit Singh of MU, Liberal College 1st semester student Ria Tongbram and Imphal College 3rd semester student Khumukcham Srinivash Singh secured the first, second and third positions respectively.
