Bishnupur shrine, Leimakhong river sanitised

Ahead of the annual floral tribute to Lainingthou Lam Ahingba in Keinou Thongkha, Bishnupur district to mark the Sajibu Nongma Panba Meetei Cheiraoba festival on March 22, a social service camp was carried out in and around the shrine on Sunday.
In this regard, a volunteer of the Thougal Lup of the shrine appealed to devotees not to bring flammable items or offer red-coloured flowers and other prohibited items to the shrine, which is one of the few Lainingthou shrine left in the state.
He then urged all to attend the observance, while informing the devotees that all preparations for the same have been completed.
Representatives of All Kamong Clubs Coordinating Committee along with residents of nine localities of Kamong made an inspection visit to Kamong-Leimakhong river up to Waroiching on Sunday.
Around 800 locals took part in the inspection visit and cleansed the river while sand miners were advised to stop excavating the river bed.
They also urged people residing nearby not to encroach on river banks and refrain from all activities that may threaten existence of the river.
