Cryoablation machine installed at RIMS

In a first of its kind in India, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), on Wednesday inaugurated a Cryoablation Machine, accompanied by a hands-on workshop on 'Cryoablation in Pain Intervention' .
The inauguration ceremony was attended by RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma, medical superintendent in-charge professor S Subash Chandra Singh, Department of PMR head professor L Nilachandra Singh and Painacea India and Mumbai Pain School founder Dr Sidharth Verma.
According to RIMS release, the RIMS director stated that the Gryoablation Machine, a state-of-the-art addition to the PMR Department, is the first of its kind ever installed in a government hospital in the country.
He said installation of the machine marks a significant advancement in minimally invasive procedures aimed at effectively managing pain with fewer side effects.
"As one of the premier institutes, RIMS is committed to delivering the best services with equipment that will have a positive impact on society," he maintained.
The director also explained about advanced pain management techniques for improving quality of life of patients suffering from chronic pain conditions.
On the day, a hands-on workshop was conducted by experts in the field, providing valuable skills to medical professionals on the use of cryoablation technology.
In his speech during the workshop, Dr Sidharth Verma enlightened the participants on gaining first-hand experience in using the equipment, thereby enhancing their skills and knowledge in pain management practices.
The programme was also participated by RIMS deputy director (administration), College of Nursing principal, HoDs, faculty members, staff and students.
Meanwhile, a two-day programme on HIV Sentinel Surveillance Plus 2025, Regional Training of Trainers for Antenatal Care (ANC) & Prison settings (North East Zone) was conducted at RIMS Sushruta Hall.
The RIMS release informed that the event was jointly organised by RI-RIMS, Imphal and National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) with the aim of enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals in monitoring HIV prevalence with special focus on high-priority areas such as antenatal clinics and prison populations.
Experts from across the region participated, reinforcing their knowledge and strategies to improve HIV surveillance, prevention, and control efforts in the North East Zone.
The collaborative initiative highlighted the commitment of RI-RIMS and NACO to strengthen public health infrastructure and ensure a robust response to HIV/AIDS in the region, it added.
