Doctors condemn murder of colleague

Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal strongly condemned the shocking and brutal murder of a 31-year-old second-year Postgraduate Trainee (PGT) of RG Kar Medical College, West Bengal.
The PGT was found assaulted and murdered in a manner described bv the RIMS RDA as "inhumane", with the initial autopsy report confirming the horrifying details.
In a statement, RDA, RIMS called for a fast-track investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s) and demanded that those behind the crime face the full extent of the law, and ensure justice is served swiftly and effectively.
The association emphasised that such incident is not just a cause of concern for the medical fraternity but also the society at large.
RDA also proposed CBI inquiry to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the murder and that the investigating authorities regularly publish written progress reports to update the public.
It further called for the establishment of a distress helpline specifically for women doctors, aimed at providing immediate assistance and support.
Furthermore, they emphasised the need for enhanced security measures in hospitals to ensure the safety of all staff, particularly women.
The association said that if their demands are not met promptly, they are prepared to intensify protest, including potential shutdown of hospital services.
Resident Doctors' Association (RDA), JNIMS and JNIMS Students' Association also jointly organised a sit-in protest in front of JNIMS administrative block to denounce murder of the PG student.
Decrying the killing in the strongest term, the protestors demanded that authorities concerned award harshest penalty to the perpetrators.
