ANSAM upholds support for Indo-Naga talks, opposes border fencing

All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) during its Legislative Assembly session held on April 9 at Heibunglok Changnhe village, Chandel district, hosted by Sirti Thiijiitam Sourkhe (Monsang Naga Students' Union), endorsed the Indo-Naga Political talks, while opposing the scrapping of Free Movement Regime (FMR) and the construction of border fencing in Naga homeland.
The session deliberated on the association's policy programmes and other contemporary issues concerning the association and the Naga people.
After thorough deliberation, the house unanimously adopted key resolutions aligned with ANSAM's principles and the interest of Nagas.
On the Indo-Naga political talks, the house reaffirmed its unwavering support and commitment for an acceptable, inclusive, and honourable political solution based on the August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN, asserting the recognition of the Naga Flag, Constitution arid integration as inalienable rights of Nagas.
To consolidate its stand, the house resolved to mandate hoisting of the Naga National Flag in every Naga house, village, street and town during Naga National celebrations such as Naga Independence Day, Naga Republic Day and Framework Agreement Day.
The ANSAM Executive Council, its constituent units and sub-ordinate bodies are tasked with its strict implementation.
Strongly opposing the Government's move to abrogate the Free Movement Regime and construct "imposed" border fencing, the house demanded immediate reinstatement of FMR to its original form and stoppage of the border fencing construction.
It also mandated the ANSAM Executive Council, in consultation with its bodies and stakeholders, to explore a course of action plan against this divisive policy.
The house reaffirmed its demand for repeal of AFSPA from Naga homeland and urged the Government of India to release Naga political prisoners, honouring the spirit of the Indo-Naga peace process.
In line with the Naga Students' Federation's directive, it reaffirmed its non-co-operation movement against Indian security forces, assigning the Executive Council to ensure strict compliance.
The Assembly also condemned the assault of Konsakhul village leaders and villagers by aggressive elements from L Phaijang, Munlai, Haraothel villages and Kuki militants disguised as civilians on April 5.The Executive Council is entrusted to visit Konsakhul with its units to assess the ground realities, and to remain vigilant in protecting Naga ancestral land from all aggressors.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguard the constitutional rights of tribal, the house resolved to ensure enforcement of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 and the ST reservation norms in state and central institutions.
It also reaffirmed its opposition to the 6th Amendment Act and 7th Amendment Bill of the Autonomous District Councils, resolving to resist any policies or legislations that violate Article 371 (C) or undermine the interest of the Naga people.
The session was chaired by ANSAM Legislative Assembly speaker Sinruwng Andria, and attended by ANSAM Executive Council members, senior leaders, functionaries, and well-wishers.
Highlights of the programme included dedication of the assembly monument by reverend Alani Shongsir and hoisting of ANSAM Flag by president Th Angteshang Maring.
