Felicitation, women-based discourses mark IWD

The International Women's Day (IWD) was celebrated across the state by different organisations and institutions on Saturday.
All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) observed the Day at Gandhi Memorial Hall with Manipur University (MU) Manipuri Department Prof Dr T Tampha, AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Soraisam Memcha, Kabui Mother Association president Atongpi Kamei, and DM College of Arts History Department assistant professor Dr Washima Begum as presidium members.
Social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and DM College of Arts Political Science associate professor Dr Arambam Noni were resource persons.
All Manipur Nupi Marup organised its 32nd state conference to celebrate the global event at Rupmahal Theatre, BT Road on Saturday during which five women journalists, namely Poknapham senior reporter Sonia Sorensangbam, Hueiyen Lanpao senior reporter Nomita Khongbantabam, Sangai Express senior reporters Sapam Aruna and Ng Liklaileima, and Imphal Times senior reporter Konthoujam Geeta, were honoured with citation and shawl each.
The observance was attended by ex-MLA O Landhoni as chief guest and social activist N Beni as guest of honour.
AMNM founder member M Kadambini, president M Sakhi, and vice president Th Punyabati were the other presidium members.
Meanwhile, Kangleipak Worn en Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd, under the aegis of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM), and the Department of RD&PR, observed the Day at Porompat Thawanthaba community hall with Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan.
Grievance Cell of GP Women's College also celebrated the day at the college while RIMS Department of Transfusion Medicine in collaboration with Life Savers Manipur, NSS Unit, and NCC of GP Women's College organised a blood donation camp at the College auditorium to mark the Day.
In all, 22 donors donated blood during the camp.
Women's Cell, IQAC, and NSS of Lilong Haoreibi College also celebrated the Day at the multipurpose hall of the college with Department of Social Welfare programme officer (SCPS) Mala Lisham, Lilong Haoreibi College principal Prof Md A Sattar Shah, Physics Department head A Dhaneshwar, Chemistry Department head Dr W Binod Kumar, and Zoology Department head Dr L Sanahanbi Devi as the dignitaries on the dais.
The day was also celebrated by Kha Manipur College, Kakching; Manipur Students' Association, Chandigarh in collaboration with Embracing Hope; All Manipur Lady Advocates' Association (AMLAA) under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA); Wakhallon Mannaba Apuba, Kangleipak; Keinou Thongkha Youth Club (KYC) and Lam Ahingba Village Level Federation (VLF), Keinou; Khangshim Napui Inlam (Khangshim Nupi Lup); Keirak GP along with Leimarembi, Shinthangambi, Thoujanbi, Lingjenthoibi, Thoungambi and Pandam VLFs; Alliance for Development Alternative Manipur (ADAM), Kakching in association with Health For All Organisations (HFAO), Arong Khunou and Child Welfare Committee, Kakching; Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar Apunba Meira Paibi and Wangoi PS; Oriental College (Autonomous), Imphal; Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL); Department of Medicine, RIMS along with Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lup and Sangak Trustee Foundation; Lamjing Meira VLF; Phayeng GP; Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur State Branch Women's Wing; and Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee.
The celebrations were marked by honouring of women activists and educationists, and conduct of competitions and discourses highlighting role of the women in the society.
