Imphal, July 08 2025:
United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC) - a representative body of Meitei Pangal civil society organisations (CSOs) - observed its second foundation day on Tuesday at Manipur Press Club.
Speaking on the occasion, UMPC vice president Islamuddin underlined the need for all communities settling in the state to collectively Work towards resolving the ongoing crisis.
He urged everyone to stand united against any attempt to divide the state or undermine its territorial integrity.
Islamuddin recalled that the UMPC was formed on this day in 2023, following a meeting of Meitei Pangal Civil society organisations.
Referring to the violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, he described it as a dark chapter in the history of Manipur.
He lamented that the incident had led to a breakdown of trust among different communities, resulting in growing divisions and weakening the fabric of unity and integrity in the state.
He emphasised that the Manipuri Muslim community, which has been an integral part of Manipur since ancient times, must raise their voices for peace and take the initiative to foster harmony among all communities.
"The UMPC was founded on this principle," he said, assuring the committee's commitment to help restore peace and unity in the state.
The function was also attended by UMPC president Muheiyuddin Mazahiri, AMPWA president AR Khan, FRPM president Ashang Kasar, Imagi Meira president Thokchom Sujata, FOCS president BM Yaima, PPAM convenor MC Meetei and Kasom Khunou Shanao Long (KKSL) general secretary Julia Shinglai as presidium members.
