Imphal, June 07 2024:
Expressing serious concern over the recent incident in Jiribam district, Jiribam MLA Ashab Uddin has appealed to the denizens to uphold peace and harmony.
In his appeal, the MLA expressed deep regret over the brutal murder of S Saratkumar of Jiribam Sorok Atingba, after abduction from his farm in Uchathok Khasiyapunji.
He strongly condemned the murder and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
The MLA also mentioned that formation of a Peace Committee in Jiribam following the ethnic clash in Manipur on May 3 last year had been so far able to maintain peace in the district.
But in light of the recent incident, there is the need for the committee to intensify its efforts, he said, while calling upon all civil society organisations, meira paibi associations, clubs, elected representatives, student bodies, political parties and the general public to collaborate in preventing such incidents from recurring.
Furthermore, the MLA pledged commitment to contribute towards restoring peace in the district.
