Demolition of illegal structures begins

Imphal, July 05 2024: Imphal East district administration started demolition of buildings and structures constructed by encroaching on drains in Chingmeirong and Tangkhul Avenue areas of the district from Friday.

Notably, the district administration had issued an eviction notice on June 8 asking owners of buildings and structures constructed over public drains and river banks to dismantle the same to facilitate free flow of water particularly during the time of flood.

The notice asked encroachers to remove their illegally constructed structures within one week or else the department concerned will dismantle them.

Regarding the eviction drive, Imphal East deputy commissioner Khumanthem Diana told media persons that the government had already appealed to people not to construct structures by encroaching on drains and river banks and accordingly started the eviction drive.

She then appealed to people to discard household wastes at designated places along with declaring that the district administration will continue the eviction drive in other locations of the district.

During the eviction drive, IMC conducted a cleanliness drive and removed debris of the demolished structures.
