Oil palm most profitable plant: MS Khaidem

Imphal, June 05 2025: Apart from helping in the preservation of environment, there is no other plants than oil palm tree which could fetch profit of more than Rs 2 lakh every year from one hectare of land during the tree's life span of 5 to 30 years, stated Oil Palm Mission Manipur consultant MS Khaidem.

Addressing farmers during an awareness cum training programme on 'Promotion of oil palm tree plantation' jointly organised by Oil Palm Mission Manipur and Patanjali Food Limited at district library, Kakching on Friday, MS Khaidem said oil palm is an evergreen tree that helps in forest promotion, apart from providing huge profit to farmers.

'It is a wrong perception that oil palm plantations damage forest," he reasoned, adding that one hectare of oil palm plantation absorbs 29.3 tonne carbon dioxide and releases 18.9 tonne oxygen.

While claiming that there are no other plants like oil palm that could yield a farmer between Rs 2.3 to 3 lakh from one hectare of land every year during the tree's 5-3Q year period, MS Khaidem noted that the Government of India has assured the purchase of oil palm products.

He also appealed to farmers of the state to avail the benefits from National Mission on Edible Oil & Oil Palm sponsored by the Government of India, informing that the scheme aims to help farmers in digging pond, drip irrigation, land preparation, bio-fencing and vermin composing apart from extending financial assistance for farming.

According to MS Khaidem, oil palm tree is known as zero pest crop and all parts of the tree including fruits, leaves and others are used in making profitable products.
