Jiribam, March 01 2025:
Womenfolk staged a sit-in protest in front of Congress Bhawan office at Babupara against the arrest of village volunteers and demanding restoration of peace in Jiribam.
The protest demonstration organised by COCOMI Jiribam Branch witnessed many women wielding placards with messages such as "We oppose imposition of President's Rule in Manipur", "Set up a new Government at the earliest", "Stop arresting village volunteers" among others.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Y Chandrasakhi, executive member, COCOMI Womens' Wing Jiribam Branch, said that the public is strictly against the imposition of President's Rule in Manipur.
Objecting to "unreasonable" operations carried out by the Army and Manipur police, she earnestly appealed against the arrest of village volunteers.
Additionally, she called for the restoration of peace in Jiribam district and safe return of the internally displaced folks in Jiribam relief camps to their respective homes.
The protesting women also demanded withdrawal of AFSPA 1958 from Manipur.
