The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West on Friday sent five non-locals who are suspected to be members of a cyber fraud gang to police custody till September 5 .
The accused have been identified as Dhansee Kumar Banjare (27), s/o Asin Kumar of Bhilai, Chhattis-garh; Rajendra Pal (29), s/o Raju Pal of Chandameta, Madhya Pradesh; Pravej Khan (27), s/o Juber Khan of Jawahar Nagar, Chhattis-garh; Satyam Yadav (28), s/o Lalji Yadav of Supela Bhilai, Chhattisgarh and Shahrukh Khan (28), s/o Siraj Khan of Sharda Para Camp 2, Chhattisgarh.
They were produced before the Court by a team of Singjamei police with a prayer to send them to police custody for seven days.
The APP of the State submitted that five of them were detained by the authority of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport at around 5.45 pm yesterday due to their suspicious nature.
The five persons were detained while trying to board a Imphal to Pune via Kolkata flight along with 31 used mobile phones with SIM cards, six laptops, nine used SIM cards, two register note books and one diary.
The airport authority handed them over to Singjamei police station.
The APP further submitted that the arrested persons work under one Siddharth from Bhilla, Chattisgarh (actual particulars not known) and they used to buy mule accounts for transactions in the name of a company called PayandGo.
It is reported that the five accused were assigned to collect credential datas like bank account details, Aadhaar card details etc of people fraudulently.
They stayed in Thoubal district.
The APP submitted that the accused could not provide registration documents of their firm or company and it is highly suspected that they may be running a cybercrime racket in the area.
It is further reported that details of 24 bank accounts were found written in their notebooks of which five bank accounts have a history of involvement in economic offence in National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of APP and IO of the case remanded the accused to police custody till September 5 .
