Imphal, November 27: With the next round of the Assembly election approaching, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and Power and Information Minister Gaikhangam has stepped up touring his Nungba Assembly Constituency.

Along with laying a series of foundation stones for constructing Government offices and inaugurating those already completed, the MPCC chief has been making all out efforts to win over the voters.

Yesterday, Gaikhangam laid the foundation stones for water supply scheme, grain godown and SDO office at Khoupum which falls under his Nungba Assembly Constituency.

Attending the function as chief guest, he announced the upgradation of the Dolang Chiru Government Junior High School to High School for which construction of the school building has already started.

The foundation stone laying and inauguration function lasted till 7 o�clock in the evening.

The water supply scheme has to be constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 1 crore with funding from Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).

The scheme envisages to provide 88 lakh litre of water to Khoupum and its surrounding area within 2021.The construction of the scheme is being targeted finish within the next two years.

The Grain Godown, for which the foundation stone was laid yesterday, is to be set up under the scheme of Rashtriya Vikas Yojana (RSVY) at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakhs for the purpose of storing rice, cereal and other essential commodities that would be required by the villagers during the rainy season.

The Khoupum SDC office would be constructed with funding from Additional Central Assistance.

Besides laying the foundation stones, the Minister also inaugurated a newly constructed Primary Health Centre at Khoupum, Longjang Thangal Government High School building at Thangal Village and the RCC bridge over the Mingchen gorge connecting Thangong of Khoupum and Duithanjang village.

The Thangal Government High School building was constructed under RSVY scheme.

Addressing the people at the occasion, Gaikhangam disclosed that the Government of India had sanctioned Rs 45 crores under RSVY for taking up developmental activities in Tamenglong district, which is comparatively backward when compared with other districts of the State.

Out of the total sanctioned amount, Rs 15 crores had been released for the first phase with which the construction of the schools and Government offices have been started, he said.

There are many office buildings and schools which are ready for inauguration and efforts would be made to inaugurate them before the election, he assured.

The State Cabinet has also approved appointment of Science teachers in the schools located in the hill districts, he added.

He further informed the gathering that the foundation stone for a Primary Health Centre and water supply scheme would be laid at Noney on November 30.While expressing happiness over the near completion of the 132 KV Power Sub-Station at Rengpang, the Minister also highlighted the achievements of the State Government over the years.

Gaikhangam maintained that Congress-led SPF Government has been giving special emphasis on development of the hills and the valley districts equally.

The efforts could also be made to meet the requirement of all the hospitals and health care centres in remote areas of both the hills and valley areas, the Minister added.

He also fervently appealed to the people to continue to extend their support to the Government.
