Imphal, September 26 2025:
Following discussions on September 25 at their Imphal office, All India Radio, Imphal and Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) have mutually agreed to resume the Thadou Unit at AIR, Imphal.
AIR has reportedly assured full cooperation, including security and necessary support, according to a press release issued by joint general secretary Manggou Thadou, TIM .
Additionally, TIM has requested all eighteen staff members of AIR, Imphal (Thadou Unit) to report to the vice-president of TIM by October 15 to discuss the relaunch and reaffirm their willingness to resume work and continue their contributions.
TIM has also formally communicated to the Chief Secretary of Manipur, the Director General of All India Radio, New Delhi, and the Station Director, AIR, Imphal, regarding the revival of the Thadou Unit.
Being the largest tribe in Manipur, the Thadou program had been broadcast daily for 30 minutes, the maximum slot among the ten tribal language programs.
Notably, this initiative comes in the wake of the tragic assassination of Thadou leader Nehkam Jomhao, as a tribute to the "Manipur Peace Martyr" from the Thadou community, who was killed by Kuki militants on August 31 at Manja, Karbi Anglong, Assam due to his participation in peace meetings aimed at fostering community understanding.
Restarting the Thadou Unit at AIR, Imphal, is part of TIM's broader effort to preserve the Thadou sociocultural identity, language, and literature while contributing to reconciliation and harmony among communities, said the press release.
It noted that the initiative is a significant step in cultural restoration, community understanding and the promotion of lasting peace in Manipur.
