Imphal, July 26 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress
Committee (MPCC) staged
a 'Satyagraha Andolan' in front
of its Congress Bhawan, BT Road
here on Tuesday against alleged
misuse of an institutional agency
like the Enforcement Directorate
by the BJP government.
During the protest, MPCC
functionaries and party workers
shouted slogans denouncing
the acts of Enforcement
Directorate, 'We condemned
Enforcement Directorate for
summoning Sonia Gandhi',
'Down Down BJP' .
Speaking in this regard,
MPCC vice president Loitongbam
Tilotama accused the BJP
government of using the Enforcement
Directorate as its
weapon.
The Directorate's act
of summoning Sonia in connection
with a National Herald
newspaper case is unreasonable
and unjustified, and as such,
MPCC staged the 'Satyagraha
Andolan', in solidarity with the
All India Congress Committee's
(AICC) protest.
She continued that the National
Herald was an important
national newspaper which
played a key role in the freedom
movement.
The daily also
worked closely with Congress
party in the national movement.
Unfortunately, with the
passage of time, the newspaper
suffered huge financial difficulty
and thus, INC provided
some financial aid.
The Enforcement
Directorate (ED),
however, took this as a money
laundering case, she said.
Tilotama recounted that AICC
ex-president Rahul Gandhi was
summoned by the ED and harassed
for over 50 hours.
Now,
AICC president Sonia Gandhi
is being summoned although
no FIR was registered in this
regard.
This is basically a
smokescreen by BJP to hide
their failures, she contended.
BJP is afraid that the people
would realise and raise objection
to its wrongdoings and as
such, is resorting to harassing
and insulting Congress party
leaders to divert the people's
attention.
However, Congress
party will not tolerate such
continuous harassment of its
leaders, she said, while adding
further agitations will continue.
