Imphal, June 26 2024:
Even as it is planning to hold a massive rally on June 28, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity has accused the Government of India of prolonging the conflict for its geopolitical interest.
Speaking to media persons at the office of the COCOMI at Lamphelpat, its coordinator, Somorendro Thokchom said the violent conflict that has lasted for more than a year has not been ended for India's geopolitical ambitions.
As per the Indian Constitution's 7th Schedule, law and order is a State subject and it falls under the ambit of the State Government.
However, the Chief Minister has been removed as the head of the Unified Command and the Centre has taken control of the law and order apparatus.
With the Centre taking control of the State's law and order, it has prolonged the violence to realise its geopolitical ambitions, Somorendro said.
Denouncing the conflict that has dragged on for more than a year without a solution, Somorendro said COCOMI is organising a mass rally in Imphal on June 28 .
The rally will be held denouncing the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists' aggression and the utter failures of the Indian and State Governments in resolving the conflict, he said.
The rally will start at 9 am from Thangmeiband's THAU Ground and conclude at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
He said the rally is to save Manipur's integrity and its interests and appealed to all the people including legislators, members of political parties, bureaucrats, civil society organisations, clubs and Meira Paibis to join the rally.
On bringing peace to Manipur, Somorendro said the conflict will end once the Government of India stops playing geopolitical games.
He said India not treating Manipuris as bonafide citizens after the Merger Agreement of October 15, 1949 has been a major reason for movements that have surfaced in Manipur to become separated from India.
The conflict and turmoil will end once India begins treating people of Manipur as bonafide citizens of the country, Somorendro said.
Further, he said the Government of India must clearly withdraw from the Suspension of Operation pact that has been signed with Kuki narco-terrorists who are waging war for independence in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
