CM inspects, Palace Compound set for spruce-up

Imphal, August 25 2012: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh inspected a number of public facilities and sites at Palace Compound today during which department officials were strongly advised to initiate all possible measures to make the public amenities even more attractive.

The CM's inspection visit this evening covered the ongoing grass-carpeting work at Hapta Kangjeibung, drainage construction and Govindajee Temple.

With regard to the grass-carpeting works, the CM instructed officials concerned to ensure completion of the work activities ahead of the forthcoming annual Sangai Festival.

Asking the officials to ensure that no stray animals, including horses, and people in large number enter Hafta Kangjeibung to enable the workers complete the grass-laying works as well as development of the historic ground fit enough to hold the festival, Ibobi told The Sangai Express that the grass-carpeting work is aimed for completion by last week of August or September first week.

Acknowledging public outcry on the dusty condition of the Festival site during the previous events, he said that the grass-carpeting work is being specifically taken up to cover the entire ground with grass and ensure that both domestic and foreign tourists enjoy the festival.

Spotting drains on the eastern side of Palace Compound approach road clogged and littered with waste, the CM advised the officials concerned to ensure that the drainage system becomes functional and carry away the wastes.

With apparent aim at preventing mishaps during the annual Rath Yatra (Kang chingba), power cables from Palace Gate upto Govindajee Temple should be buried under ground, he said.

Apart from assessing work progress of the Hafta Kangjeibung gate and interior complex of Govindajee Temple, including the kitchen area, Ibobi also advised that the pond at the temple complex be maintained/developed in a clean and hygienic manner.

He further asked the officials to ensure that sanctity and decorum that should adorn a religious site should be accorded to Govindajee Temple.

The CM was also accompanied by Commissioner (Finance) Rakesh Ranjan, Commissioner (Art & Culture) RK Nimai Singh, Imphal East district Deputy Commissioner RK Dinesh and other top civil and police officers.
