Imphal, January 23 2026:
Some unknown persons who spoke Kuki dialect made a daring attempt to abduct a man at Keithelmanbi, Imphal West along NH-37 .
The abduction attempt happened close on the heels of the abduction and cold blooded murder of Mayanglambam Rishikanta from Kakching Khunou by suspected militants of UKNA at Natjang, Churachandpur.
Three unknown persons who came on a two-wheeler took hold of one Laishram Ibohal's wrist at around 5.30 pm on January 22, 2026 and made a failed attempt to abduct him.
Laishram Ibohal is a resident of Keithelmanbi Maning Leikai.
According to what L Khomdon, younger brother of Laishram Ibohal, told a local cable TV network, the three men who spoke Kuki dialect said to Ibohal "You, Meiteis cannot settle here.
Let's talk" .
Saying this, they took hold of Ibohal's wrist and dragged him.
Shrugging off the unknown men, Ibohal said, "If you want to talk, let's talk at the nearby police checkpost" .
At this, the three men turned around and rode up the hills, Khomdon said.
He also decried that both Central forces and State forces do not take any serious action whenever Kukis commit unlawful and criminal activities.
Even though CRPF personnel deployed in the area claimed that the three men who spoke Kuki dialect were apprehended and handed over to the village chief, the claim is hard to believe, Khomdon added.
