Imphal, October 22 2024:
Manipur Loumi Lup has urged the State Government to release all pending compensation for damages caused by floods and landslides this year.
The Central Government, on September 30, had approved release of Rs 50 crore to Manipur as Central share from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and an advance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) .
However, these funds have not been released and disbursed to the affected families and individuals yet, asserted the Manipur Loumi Lup in a statement.
The Chief Minister has on many occasions thanked the Prime Minister for releasing the funds, but this money has not been disbursed to the victims of the floods, it said.
While the money recently released has not yet reached the victims of floods and landslides, it further asserted that as many as 2072 farmers/beneficiaries have not yet got the 2nd instalment of compensations for damaged crops last year.
Due to conflict between communities that broke out on May 3, 2023, around 10,000 hectares of agricultural fields couldn't be cultivated last year.
The Centre in November 2023, however, released Rs 38.06 crore compensation for 5127 hectares affected agricultural land.
While the first instalment totalling Rs 18.90 crore has been disbursed to affected farmers, the 2nd instalment of the compensation for as many as 2072 farmers has not been released yet, said Manipur Loumi Lup.
Further, there is no clarity regarding the June 13 State Cabinet decision to compensate Rs 10,000 each to 24,000 families affected by cyclone Remal and subsequent floods.
How many families have actually received the promised compensation is not known, it said.
The Manipur Loumi Lup urged the State Government to swiftly release the pending compensation to all the affected families and farmers.
