Imphal, June 22 2013 : All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) has threatened to launch different forms of agitation if teenager Yumkhaibam Salman is not released from police custody at the earliest.

In a press conference held at its Hatta Minuthong office, AMMSO President Md Farid condemned arrest and detention of 17-year-old Salman of Hiyangthang Tara Hei Konjen Chinga Awang Leikai by a security team, who spoke Hindi and Manipuri at around 11 pm of June 20 .

He said that Salman's arrest is suspected to be a fallout of enmity with a person from his own locality over a past scuffle.

The president further said that memorandums would be submitted to State Home Minister, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister demanding action against the security team who had picked up the teenager and framed wrong charges of being connected with armed group PULF.

Salman recently passed Class XII examination.

Taking part at the press conference, Salman's father Yumkhaibam Mujibur said, his son was picked up from his house by a security team who spoke Hindi and Manipuri at around 11 pm on June 20 .

Later, he was handed over to Wangoi Police Station at around 2 am the same night, Mujibur added.

According to Wangoi Police, Mujibur added, Salman was handed over to them by 40 Assam Rifles saying that he is a PULF cadre.

The AR team told the police station that a hand grenade and a demand note were seized from Salman's possession, Mujibur added.

He also expressed suspicion that a person from his locality who had a brawl with Salman might have given wrong information against Salman.

Claiming that his son is innocent and does not have any connection with any underground group, Mujibur demanded early release of Salman.

Salman has been shifted to Children Observation Centre, Takyel for treatment, he added.
