Decks cleared for Sangai Tourism Festival

The elaborate and grand State tourism festival popularly and officially known as Manipur Sangai Festival will be opened tomorrow by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at Hapta Kangjeibung.
The festival will continue till November 20 and will feature a variety of captivating and exciting events and programmes.
These include exhibition and sale of local handloom and handicraft products, exhibition matches of indigenous games like Mukna, Mukna Kangjei, Kang, Yubi Lakpi, Sagol Kangjei, Arambai etc .
Dance and musical programmes including the famous Lai Haraoba dance, Raas, Pung Cholom and tribal traditional dance and music would also be presented to add to the vibrancy of the festival.
Adventure sports and eco-tourism activities would heighten excitement triggered by the festival.
Adventure sports and eco-tourism package include expeditions to Dzuko valley, Loktak Lake and Lamdan, rock climbing, para-gliding at Koirengei, expeditions to Andro, Siroy Hills, Khangkhui Cave, Tharon Cave, Barak Waterfalls and Zeliad Lake.
Speaking to media persons about the festival at Hotel Imphal today, Tourism Commissioner KK Chhetry stated that tourism is the future hope of Manipur.
The basic essence and purpose of Manipur Sangai Festival is development and promotion of the State's tourism potential, he stated.
Inviting one and all to the festival, Chhetry also sought positive criticism about the festival.
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union general secretary Surjeswar said that media would give full coverage of the events of the festival so that the festival receives the publicity it deserves.
