Imphal, July 20 2025: Stating that Congress is the only political party which can uphold the Constitution, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra has remarked that there is no option left than complete obliteration of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from India.

He made the statement during a 'Samvidhan Bachao' rally-cum-meeting organised by Khurai Block Congress Committee at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai community hall on Sunday.

The rally was attended by party MLAs, former MPCC presidents, ex- MPs, ex-MLAs, MPCC office bearers, PCC members and office bearers of MPCC .

Meghachandra asserted that the central government would only try to extend the President's Rule (PR) for another six months, as is evident from the matter listed in the agenda of the upcoming parliament session on Monday.

It would not be wrong to assume that the Article 356 is being misused to bypass and supress the elected representatives of the people.

The central government is trying to dictate the land, which is completely unacceptable.

It was initially believed that the situation would improve before the PR but the current scenario has fallen beyond expectations, he remarked.

The MPCC chief continued that when BJP came to power in 2017, N Biren swore to provide employment for 1.5 lakh youth in the state every year, while PM Modi vowed to generate two crore jobs every year for the youth in the country.

However, it is now clear that all of these were lies.

As such, Congress is the only political party which can protect and save the Constitution.

It is Congress which can bring peace to the state, in addition to providing jobs for the youth, empowerment of women and improving the livelihoods of all including entrepreneurs, he asserted.

Meghachandra also contended that the leaders elected by the people are the ones suppressing the latter.

The people have been suffering ever since BJP came to power and the Constitution repeatedly challenged since 2017 .

The Constitution is now in a perilous state all due to BJP government, he remarked, while explaining the need and reason for carrying out the Samvidhan Bachao rally in every corner of the country.

Meanwhile, the on-going conflict in the state has left many dead and thousands displaced.

However, there is not even a glimmer of an attempt of a solution till date.

No action was taken either before or after imposition of PR, which raises question on the trust level of the central BJP government.

Congress would not accept further extension of the PR, he stated, while reiterating that only the party can form a people-oriented government which can restore peace in the state.

Thus, he urged all concerned to vote for a party which is sincere towards the people and elect good leaders.
