Imphal, June 20 2024:
Saying that 'migrant Kuki terrorists' continue to attack 'Meetei tribe' despite the heavy deployment of Central security forces, the World Meetei Council (WMC) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the atrocities.
In a statement, the Council said that the Prime Minister can stop the violence within 24 hours if he wants to.
"Why Impose War on Us," is what the WMC wrote in the title of its statement.
The Council further said that the situation remains dire in the State despite the presence of 40,000 to 50,000 Central forces including the Army, Assam Rifles and other paramilitary forces.
Fourteen months into the ongoing violence in Manipur and the situation still remains dire, it added.
The Council went on to state that the violence which began on May 3, 2023 was started and being perpetrated by migrant Chin-Kuki terrorists.
It also mentioned that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high security meeting on June 18 and discussed the issue in Manipur in the absence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
According to reports, the Centre has decided to deploy additional troops in Manipur, it added.
It is the violent campaign of 'migrant Chin-Kuki terrorists which triggered the unrest in Manipur,' the WMC said and continued that 'these migrant terrorists' want the Centre to give a separate administration to the Chin-Kuki people no matter how.
The Council further said that the 'migrant Chin-Kuki terrorists' have been scheming to cleanse Meeteis from certain areas to fulfil their aspiration.
Reiterating that the attack on Meeteis has been going on since May 3 last year despite the deployment of 40,000 to 50,000 Central forces, the WMC asked whether the Central Government has been engaging with these 'terrorists' for broader geopolitical interest in South East Asia.
"The Centre's apparent compromise with the lives of its citizens in Manipur is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately," it demanded.
Saying that the Prime Minister has the power to stop the violence in Manipur within 24 hours, the Council urged him (Prime Minister) to take a decisive action to halt the attacks on the indigenous Meetei tribe.
