'Surrender illegal arms or face music'

Imphal, February 20 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has asked people of all communities, particularly the youths in the valley and hills, to voluntarily come forward and surrender looted and illegally held weapons and ammunition to the nearest police station, outpost or security forces' camp within the next seven days with effect from today (February 20) .
The Governor has also assured that no punitive action would be initiated if such weapons are returned within the stipulated time but strict action will be taken up thereafter for possession of such weapons.
"Your single act of returning these weapons can be a powerful gesture towards ensuring peace.
"The Government is committed to ensuring a peaceful resolution of the situation and safeguarding the future of our youths.
Let us rebuild our State together with hope and trust for a brighter future.
Come forward and choose peace", the Governor said in a press release.
In the greater interest of restoring normalcy so that people can return to their normal day to day activities, all communities in the State must come forward to ensure cessation of hostilities and maintenance of peace and order in the society, Ajay Kumar Bhalla said.
He said that the Government of Manipur is deeply concerned about the illegal circulation of arms and ammunition that were looted or were unlawfully taken from various places including State armouries.
These weapons pose a serious threat to safety and security of the society, the Governor added.
