A joint statement issued by MKNF president Jurist Abonmai and TWAK secretary Phangreishang Ningshen stated Kingshon Kashung, a resident of Chingshou village in Kamjong currently living at Kanglatongbi, was assaulted by a Kuki who declared himself as a member of Kuki National Army (KNA) while hired by two Liangmai women to collect vegetables from Motbung Bazar.
KNA is a signatory of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government which was recently extended for a year.
Expressing concern and outrage over the incident, the Tangkhul Naga organi zations demanded swift action against the individual responsible.
They stated that the suspected Kuki militant approached Kingshon Kashung near Presidency College in Motbung, questioned him in the Kuki dialect, and the situation escalated when Kashung, unable to understand Kuki, responded in Manipuri.
MKNF and TWAK stated that the assailant, without provocation, began punching and threatening the auto driver, Kingshon Kashung, that has sent shockwaves through the Naga community, sparking widespread anger and condemnation.
They added that such brutal and senseless violence towards an innocent civilian in a public setting is deeply troubling and cannot be tolerated.
Condemning the incident, these organisations called for immediate action to ensure the safety and security of all civilians, regardless of their ethnicity or background.
MKNF and TWAK urged the individual, group, or organization concerned to clarify their stance on the incident within 72 hours of the press statement, warning that failure to do so will lead them to pursue democratic forms of agitation.
"Let this be a reminder that no one is above the law.
All forms of violence against innocent people will be met with unwavering opposition and we stand united in our commitment to uphold justice", they said.
