Imphal, September 18, 2010: The Union Ministry of Tourism has agreed in-principle to the proposal for a multi crore project to renovate and develop the Indian National Army (INA) memorial complex located at Moirang.

According to information received from Tourism Department, the project, estimated at the cost of Rs 20 crores would have such components as double-dock parking lot of capacity 40 vehicles in the basement floor, a fountain, a bridge on the canal located to the eastern side of the complex, gate and ground beautification.

Considering the location of the complex in Moirang, near Loktak Lake which are historically very important sites besides being prime tourist destinations, the Ministry of Tourism has conveyed its desire for a detailed archeological report about the technical aspects of the mega project.

A team of engineers will go to New Delhi soon and make a power point presentation before officials of the Ministry of Tourism.

On the other hand, the State Govt has agreed in principle to entrust the proposed mega project to the Manipur Development Society.

The Ministry would take up the project under its annual plan after State engineers make a power point presentation before its officials.

Further, the State Government has sent detailed project reports about developing tourist spots at Marjing Hills in Imphal East and Kaina in Thoubal district.

However, it would be sometime before these two projects can be taken up, conveyed the source.

The State Government and the Ministry of Tourism has also agreed in principle to hand over the eco-tourism park being developed at Nongmaiching foothills to the former.

But actual hand over of the project would be delayed for sometime as greater number of the Tourism Ministry's manpower are being engaged in the preparations works of the Commonwealth Games, added the source.
