Jiribam, September 18: Adding to the withering offices in the sub-divisional town of Jiribam of Imphal East District, the office of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry too has become a mockery with no sign of any activities in the absence of proper office building.

The erring employees who seldom visit the office are seen attending to their duties in a staff quarter of the Department at Chandrapur, Jiribam.

At present the Veterinary Hospital located at Chandrapur, has only one lady doctor who is also the Deputy Director looking after the affairs of the Department along with the help of one field assistant and two attendants.

As per the norms, there should be at least three doctors, five field assistants and three attendants in the Veterinary Hospital.

It is learnt that one doctor who is posted at the Veterinary Hospital of Jiri has been taking his job for granted by staying at Imphal but drawing his monthly salary regularly.

There are five branches of the Veterinary Department in Jiri namely the Veterinary Hospital at Chandrapur, Jiri Headquarters, Regional Main Centre or Artificial Insemination office of Patchao (Chingdong Leikai), Veterinary Check posts of Jiri Headquarters, Latingkhal Veterinary Dispensary and Borobekra Veterinary Dispensary.

The Regional Main Centre of Patchao is currently lying in shambles as the employees are taking their jobs for granted.

There should be three attendants each assigned and working under one field assistant.

However, there are only two attendant, one each at Latingkhal and Borobekra dispensaries.

The two field assistants of Latingkhal and Borobekra are enjoying their salary regularly without attending to their duties at their assigned places.

Talking to this correspondent, Assistant Extension Officer M Mangi admitted that the inefficiency of the Department is due to lack of employees with erring employees not reporting to their offices located far from the sub-divisional headquarters of Jiri.

Mangi informed that except for few first aid materials, there is no stock of medicine at the temporary office of Chandrapur as no medicines have been sent from Imphal for quite a long time.

He lamented that the step-motherly treatment meted out to Jiri Veterinary office by the authority concerned has been aggravated further by the erring employees.

One biggest lapse on the part of the employees of the Veterinary Check post is that vehicles carrying poultry Chickens and animals are never checked.

Only when the inefficient employees of Jiri inform their counterparts of Keithelmanbi Veterinary check post, these vehicles are checked.

One cattle rearer of Jiri stated that he is unaware of the presence of Veterinary Hospital in Jiri and no benefits have been ever received so far if it exists.
