IMC to provide garbage bags to vendors

Imphal, April 18 2025:
Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has geared up to provide Government approved garbage bags to vendors of Khwairamband Keithel.
A senior citizens' recreation point (Pothashang) was opened today at Nagamapal (opposite Lai Ishingchaibi) .
Speaking at the inaugural function of the recreation point, MAHUD Director Ng Uttam said that IMC would distribute Government approved plastic bags to all vendors of Khwairamband every morning by charging Rs 10 per day.
Other than this Government approved plastic bag, no other types of plastic bags would be allowed, he said.
IMC officials would collect Rs 50 from each vendor at the time of distributing the garbage bags.
Vendors should collect their wastes, put them in the garbage bags and deposit the garbage bags at the dustbins arranged by IMC .
After the filled garbage bags are deposited at the dust bins, IMC would pay back Rs 40 at the counters opened near dustbins out of Rs 50 collected in the morning at the time of distributing the garbage bags while IMC would collect Rs 10 as market cleaning charge, Ng Uttam said.
He appealed to all vendors not to harbour any grudge in paying Rs 10 to IMC for IMC would take the responsibility of keeping the markets neat and clean.
He further appealed to all the vendors to stop disposing/littering waste materials on roads, streets, rivers and at different corners of the markets.
The MAHUD Director appealed to all the citizens to make Imphal a clean and neat city.
IMC Mayor L Lokeshore and IMC Commissioner K Chandrakumar were also present at the inaugural function of the recreation point.
