Prices set for Chakkouba fish fair on Oct 22

As in the previous years, a fish fair-cum-fish crop competition will be held on the eve of Ningol Chakkouba festival at Hapta Kangjeibung on October 22.As decided/fixed at the Price Fixation Committee meeting held today in the office chamber of the Director of Fisheries, prices of Catla per Kg at the 46th Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition 2025 will be Rs 240 (below 2 Kg), Rs 300 (2 Kg & above) and Rs 400 (5 Kg and above).
Prices of other fishes per Kg are: Rohu Rs 230 (below 1 Kg, Rs 300 (1 Kg & above), Rs 350 ( 2 kg & above); Mrigal Rs 230 (below 1 Kg), Rs 300 (1 Kg & above) and Rs 350 (2 Kg & above); Common Carp Rs 220 (below 1 Kg), Rs 250 (1 Kg & above) and Rs 300 (2 Kg & above); Grass Carp Rs 260 (below 2 Kg), Rs 280 (2 Kg & above), Rs 350 (3 Kg & above), Rs 380 (5 Kg & above) and Rs 400 (7 Kg & above); Silver Carp Rs 220 (below 3 Kg) and Rs 240 (3 Kg & above).
Big Head Rs 300 (3 Kg & above), Rs 350 (5Kg & above); Pengba/Khabak Rs 450 (below 300 gm) and Rs 550 (above 300 gm); Ngaton Rs 450; Ngahei Rs 220 (1 Kg & above) and Rs 300 (3 Kg & above), Ukabi (Anabas) Rs 250, Porom Rs 300, Tunghanbi (Tilapia) Rs 150, Sareng (W attu) Rs 1100 (upto 1 Kg) and Rs 1200 (1 Kg & above), Rs 1500 (2 Kg and above) Java Puti (P japonicus) Rs 220 and Ngakra Rs 800.As only around around 20 are engaged in Sareng farming, the demand of the fish may exceed its production and the sale of Sareng will be on 'first come, first serve' basis, said Director of Fisheries T Phulen Meitei.
Fisheries Department will facilitate the sale of Sareng weighing 1 Kg and above at the fair venue but those who desire smaller Sareng fishes for cultural and religious purposes may contact the respective farmers on the day of the fair, it said.
