Imphal, April 16 2019: Pointing out that there is no political party in the country which enjoyed people's mandate as long as the Congress party, MPCC president Gaikhangam has claimed that whatever the country has achieved since independence are all achievements of Congress party.

He was speaking at a political convention held today at Heingang Mayai Leikai Sports and Development Committee ground.

By questioning what Congress party did for the country, BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Biren have been only exposing their ignorance of the country's history, Gaikhangam remarked.

He said that BJP is a political party which did not take any part in the country's freedom struggle.

On the contrary, Congress party was set up before India achieved independence and it served as a vanguard in the country's freedom struggle.

After independence, Congress party ruled the country for decades except for brief interruptions by a few political parties.

Over the years, Congress party successfully reformed the country and it brought revolutionary changes in several fields including economy, science and technology, claimed the MPCC president.

Congress party is not like BJP Government which believes more in propaganda and illusions.

Congress party has shown its character by deeds, not words, he said.

Both the BJP-led Governments at the Centre and the State have excelled in telling lies and deceiving the masses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Biren can be compared to a father and son.

As if the father should not only excel in making boastful statements, Chief Minister N Biren has been speaking as if Manipur was created by his Government in just two years, Gaikhangam remarked.

Asking whether it is possible for the BJP-led Government to accomplish in 15 months all those works done by the Congress Government over a period of 15 years, he said that the only achievements of the BJP-led Government are the Framework Agreement, Manipur University crisis and CAB 2016 .

Since the BJP-led Government was sworn in, BJP has been investing all efforts to impose the ideology of Hindutva in the entire North East region including Manipur.

BJP tried repeatedly to enlist CAB 2016 in the agenda of Rajya Sabha's budget session but they could not table the Bill on account of the stiff opposition raised by Congress and like-minded parties, Gaikhangam said.

He then appealed to all the voters to elect Congress candidate O Nabakishore to the Lok Sabha so as to pave way for complete abolition of deceitful BJP.

Speaking at the political convention, ex-Chief Minister O Ibobi pointed out that it was the Congress Government which withdrew AFSPA from seven Assembly segments of Imphal valley despite strong objection from the Central Government.

As done by the Congress Government, the BJP-led Government may lift AFSPA from other areas of the State.

But Narendra Modi as well as the State's BJP-led Government are still in favour of imposing AFSPA in the State.

The major factors for imposition of AFSPA in the North East by the past Congress Government are known to all the people and BJP's false propaganda would not change these facts, Ibobi asserted.

Asserting that BJP has been posing a serious challenge to the country's Constitution, democracy and secularism, Ibobi appealed to all electors to support the Congress candidate.

MLA K Ranjit, MLA K Govindas and ex-MLA Dr Chaltonlien Amo too spoke at the convention.
