Two members of a gang involved in printing fake currency notes have been arrested by a team of Lilong Police led by its OC, inspector, Md Chaoba and materials used in printing the fake currency notes have been recovered on Saturday last, police said today.
The two arrested persons have been identified as Md Achou @ Shagir Ahmad (33) son of late Abdul Helim of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai and Laishram Bullet (32) son of late Sharat of Wangkhei Pukhrambam Leirak.
Inspector, Md Chaoba revealed that the two individuals with fake notes and printing materials were rounded up during a drive conducted at around 8 am of February 13 last based on specific tip-off.
During the raid, Md Achou was picked.
From his disclosure, they came to know that the gang has around seven to eight persons.
Others are still at large and operations to nab them are on, the OC added.
From the disclosure made by the arrestees, police come to know that they had started printing of the fake notes of denomination, 1000 and 500 and started distribution in the market November 2007.Lilong police have been on the look for them for a long time, he said.
Based on disclosure made by Md Achou and Bullet, the proprietor of Computer World, Moirangkhom engaged in printing the fake notes was arrested at about 3.30 pm of the same day on which Md Achou was nabbed from his house.
Police also seized a HP Colour Letter Zed, a computer monitor, CPU, printer and others accessories of the computer set along with fake note of Rs 500 denomination, the OC said adding that so far the gang has circulated fake notes amounting to Rs 1 lakh.
Meanwhile, the two arrested persons have been taken into police custody for five days after producing them in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal.
