Slush and dust continue to mark ISBT

Imphal, September 14 2026: Slushy when it rains and dusty during dry weather, the condition of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Khuman Lampak remains unchanged despite the facility having resumed operations on January 22, 2026 .

Moreover, the toilets and other facilities at the terminus are also in miserable condition.

The ISBT was reopened on January 22 this year during President's Rule after remaining closed for a considerable period.

However, there has been no tangible improvement since its reopening.

Apart from the construction of some drains, repair of potholes and installation of some counter booths, no other development works appear to have been taken up at the facility.

Slush and dust continue to mark ISBT

Water accumulates alongside the drains as their construction remains incomplete.

Dust emanates from the unblacktopped areas of the facility whenever vehicles pass through, adding to the inconvenience faced by the drivers and visitors.

At present, only one toilet is functional, while the others face issues such as non-functional doors, bulbs and electrical switches.

The improvements seen at the terminus include the repair of potholes and installation of floodlights.

Another noticeable improvement is that indiscriminate dumping of waste is no longer seen at the terminus.

Some drivers told The Sangai Express that the reopening of the terminus after carrying out some repair works is a welcome step.

They, however, said that excessive dust is kicked up whenever vehicles pass through the unblacktopped areas.

They further said that the construction of the drains has been halted due to the non issuance of a work order.

Saying that they use only one toilet after cleaning it, as the others are in such poor condition that they cannot even look at them, let alone use them, they urged the Government to repair the terminus.

It may be mentioned that the ISBT was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on December 3, 2011, even before the construction of the terminus was completed.

The facility was subsequently opened for operations on November 13, 2016, by the then Transport Minister.

However, after being in use for around two years, the condition of the terminus began to deteriorate due to lack of proper maintenance by the Government and careless use by the public.

The terminus was recommissioned by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on January 22, 2026 during the President's Rule period.
