Imphal, September 14 2016:
All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union has threatened to launch a steering off stir on NH-37, NH-2 and Imphal-Moreh road if the extremely dilapidated 5-km long portion of NH-37 near Makru is not revamped at the earliest.
In a statement, the union said that around 350/400 goods laden Imphal-bound trucks which left Jiribam on September 12 are still stranded at Makru as the vehicles are unable to cross this area.
In this regard, the union questioned why the Government and BRO are so insensible although the drivers have been facing extreme inconvenience and hardships in shipping in essential items on the highway.
The Government and BRO must be held responsible for any eventuality if the transporters can't tolerate this indifferent attitude.
The Government must understand that no essential commodity would fall from the sky on its own if the drivers stop bringing in these commodities.
The union also demanded the Government to revamp Imphal-Moreh road at the earliest.
