Imphal, August 14 2024:
The Pambei-led UNLF observed the 78th Independence Day of Manipur at its central headquarters, departments, MPA general headquarters, brigades and battalions.
The main function was held at the party's central headquarters with the Pambei-led UNLF acting Chairman Moirangthem Nongyai and Taragi Cheishu president Khaidem Mani as president and chief guest respectively.
The outfit's department of human resource development secretary Sapam Tamphajao, chief of army staff Khwairakpam Khomba, UMO president Moirangthem Sorojini, student leader Bipinchandra Ahanthem and Meitei Pangal Council Manipur president Haji Arafat too attended the Independence Day function.
Party cadres, members, MPA senior officers, officers, NCOs, privates and distinguished personalities and CSO leaders were also present at the function, according to a press release issued by the outfit's media coordinator Charairongba Thokchom.
One main and common feature of the Independence Day observation was observing two-minute silence in honour of all the martyrs who laid their lives to protect the sovereignty of Manipur.
Pambei-led UNLF acting Chairman M Nongyai said that lack of trust and disunity among the communities of Manipur is a result of the divide and rule policy devised by the British colonial rulers and perpetuated by India.
The outfit's peace process is a political step to restore the sovereignty of Manipur through peaceful dialogue, he asserted.
Asserting that the outfit would never compromise on the question of Manipur's sovereignty, the acting Chairman said that they would resume the liberation movement if the peace talk would not be able to bring back the independence of Manipur.
