Imphal, April 14: Greeting the people of the land especially the tillers of the soil on the occasion of its 28th foundation day, the president of the proscribed KCP turned back the pages of history and recalled the 'progress' of the outfit since its inception through the numerous splits and internal strife.

Issuing a statement in connection with the day, the president of the outfit said that the KCP was formed on April 14, 1980 under the leadership of the late Ibungo Ng Babu Meitei and added that soon after the formation, many leaders passed away while some were arrested.

The deputy commandant of the outfit, the deputy commander in chief Baji Ibohanbi was arrested in May 1980 while others were killed including prominent leader Kh Leisabi, said the statement and added that others retired from the outfit.

Following the series of reversal internal strife broke out within the KCP, said the statement and added that from December 1983 till January 1984, cadres of the outfit and sympathisers held a series of meetings and decided to appoint the late Ibopishak Meitei as the president of the KCP and started the process of reviving the party.

In 1985, Y Ibohanbi was released from jail and after staying over ground for some time, he was again arrested in 1988, recalled the statement.

After his release in 1990, Ibohanbi joined the KCP as the Commander-in-chief and started working under Ibopishak, said the statement and added that under the leadership of the two, KCP launched a strong revolutionary movement.

On February 21, 2992, the Revolutionary Joint Committee was formed among the PLA, PREPAK and KCP, said the statement and added unfortunately, the RJC did not survive for long.

On July 1, 1995, Ibohanbi was killed in a shoot out with the security forces at Heinoupokpi, Andro and shortly later on May 8, 1996, president of the KCP, Ibopishak passed away somewhere outside India.

After the death of the two leaders, KCP plunged into confusion and in a bid to unify the party, a meeting was held on March 12, 1997.During the meeting K Mangang (Kh Leibakmacha) was appointed the president, W Shyamjai the VP, Ksh Laba (Noyon) the general secretary, Chand the finance secretary and Laiba Mangang as the publicity and propaganda secretary.

They constituted the Central Committee.

Yet another meeting was held from September 15 to 20 in 1998, said the statement and added that new office bearers were selected.

KK Mangang continued as the president, Ksh Laba as the general secretary, KK Nganba as the finance secretary, Kh Lamphel as home secretary, Akbar as assistant home secretary, Sh Pakhanglakpa as organisation secretary and Pibarel Mangang as publicity and propaganda secretary.

The new arrangement however did not last long and KCP was once again mire by internal strife and differences from March 2004, said the statement and added that the CC members did as they please.

With the initiative of the PREPAK, KYKL and UNLF a three member adhoc central committee was formed on May 8, 2006 pending a party congress of the KCP.

The members of the adhoc central committee were KK Mangang as convenor with Laba Meitei and Lamphel Luwangcha as members.

To assist the adhoc committee, a consultative group was also formed, informed the statement and added that members of the group included K Nganba as the convenor while Pibarel Mangang, Pakhanglakpa, Kokai Meitei and City Meitei were the members.
