Imphal, December 13 2025: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla graced the 4th edition of the State Level Barak Festival 2025 held at Zeilipou, Senapati district today.

During the function, the Governor, accompanied by the First Lady, visited the various Morungs (traditional Naga dormitories/huts) set up at the venue, which showcased the traditions and cultural expressions of different ethnic groups, reflec- ting the region's rich diversity and vibrancy.

The Governor also unveiled the 4th State Level Barak Festival 2025 monolith and witnessed traditional stone pulling, displays of traditional cuisines, and the customary blowing of horn.

He witnessed vibrant cultural dance performances showcasing the traditions of diverse communities.

Addressing the function, Governor Bhalla stated that the festival symbolises shared identity, unity, and the enduring bond between communities and the Barak River.

Referring to the theme 'Heritage in Harmony,' he highlighted Senapati's rich natural landscapes, cultural diversity, and immense tourism potential, noting that festivals such as the Barak Festival play a vital role in showcasing local traditions while promoting sustainable tourism and economic growth.

He further stated that the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, was deeply impressed by the natural beauty of Senapati, and noted that its strategic location along National Highway-2 positions the district as a gateway and an emerging destination for eco and experiential tourism.

He informed that Tourist Circuit Development Projects of approximately Rs 8.46 crore, supported by the North Eastern Council, are being taken up in several villages to strengthen tourism infrastructure and improve local livelihoods.

Emphasising environmental responsibility, the Governor appreciated the recent Barak River cleanliness drive, and called for continued efforts to protect the river and forests.

He commended the organisers and volunteers, and encouraged the youth to uphold cultural heritage and lead conservation initiatives for a harmonious and sustainable future.

While the Government remains fully committed to extending all necessary support, active public participation is essential, he said.

The Barak Festival would serve as a beacon to the world in highlighting the river's profound cultural, ecological and economic significance, he added.

MLA Losii Dikho, NPO president and senior officers of the civil administration, police and the Assam Rifles and members of the local communities attended the event.
