Domestic worker escapes from abusive master

A domestic helper who jumped down from a terrace to escape the assault of his master has landed at the custody of Child Line through the assistance of a local youth club.
Unable to bear the physical assault of his master, a 17-year old boy, Ram (name changed) jumped from the terrace of one Irom Lokendro alias Loken (54), an accountant of the NSS Cell of Youth Affairs and Sports department, located at Wangkhei Angom Leikai under Porompat PS in Imphal East district today morning.
A resident of Kalapahar in Senapati district, Ram has been employed at the house as a domestic helper since 4/5 years back.
Exposing several bruise marks on his body before the media today at the office of WAL United Youth Club, Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Ram said that he was repeatedly beaten by his master since Saturday over the loss of an ATM card that belongs to the house owner.
Loken with his wife, children and their friends tied his limbs and battered him, he narrated.

Unable to endure the continual physically harassment that went on till Sunday, Ram told them that he himself tore the ATM card.
He was spared from beating on Monday.
A Class VIII passed helper, Ram said that the master of the house assured his further education before he landed at their house.
He was paid Rs 1000 per month.
He further said that a 60-year old maid of the house also faced frequent harassment from the masters.
President of the club, RK Gokulchandra said that the boy landed in their hand following an information provided by some persons from Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
Pointing out that this is not the first such incident at the house, the club president said a resolution would be adopted to prevent such happenings while adding that the boy would be handed over to Child Line, Imphal.
Meanwhile, the house owner, Loken said that one of his deceased son's friend, Moirangthem Karnajit of Uripok left his ATM card at their house on Friday.
When he came to collect the same the next day, it was found missing.
Suspecting that the card might have been concealed by Ram, he was beaten up.
Around Rs 2.36 lakh is said to be in the account, he said.
When the account was checked, no transaction was found to be made through the account.
