New benchmark for ingenuity Fish wrapped bomb gifted

Setting a new benchmark in ingenuity, a hand grenade wrapped inside the stomach of a fish (Sareng) was gifted to the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department's District Supply Officer of Thoubal Laitonjam Somorendro at his residence at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal today.
According to reports culled from the site/residence of the officer, three men came to the residence of the DSO in the evening today at about 3 and delivered a Sareng weighing around 4 kgs wrapped in a polythene bag.
"This is a gift for Sir," they said while delivering the fish.
A piece of paper with number of a mobile phone written on it was also found inside the fish.
At that moment, the DSO was inside the house having his evening tea along with the family.
The son of Somorendro took up the task of filleting the fish and while cutting the fish into three pieces, he came across a hard object inside the stomach of the fish.

Not suspecting that it could be a bomb, the family members at first assumed that fish mongers might have planted a stone inside the fish to inflate its weight.
However on closer scrutiny the family members became suspicious and reported the matter to the police.
A team of Imphal East police soon arrived and identified the object as a Chinese made hand grenade and retrieved the same.
This is not the first time that bombs have been delivered as gifts in the State.
Some time back, a bomb was found packed inside a tin fish can.
Imphal East police had then detected the said bomb fitted tin fish can which was being brought in from Moreh.
On the other hand a hand grenade was retrieved from near the old casualty ward of JNIMS last night at about 8.30 .
A police bomb disposal squad retrieved the explosive.
The hand grenade was without a detonator.
Meanwhile a rusted bomb was found at the court yard of one Kangabam Gopal (50) of Lamdeng Khunou under Lamshang police station.
The bomb was found when the court yard was being dug up for some purpose.
Sources said that the police have retrieved the bomb.
