Students intake at RIMS hiked

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission to increase the annual MBBS intake of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal from 125 to 150 seats for the academic year 2026-27 .
"The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has achieved a significant milestone in medical and dental education with the National Medical Commission (NMC) granting permission to increase the annual MBBS intake from 125 to 150 seats for the Academic Year 2026-27," said a statement issued by the media cell of the institute.
This enhancement, RIMS said, will strengthen undergraduate medical education and provide greater opportunities for aspiring medical students in the North Eastern Region.
Further, the National Dental Commission (NDC) has accorded permission to start Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) courses at the Dental College, RIMS, Imphal, from the academic year 2026-27 in six specialties, with three seats each viz Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, Periodontology, Orthodontics &Dentofacial Orthopedics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontic, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Prosthodontics & Crown & Bridge, it added.
Saying that these approvals mark a major step in enhancing the academic and healthcare capabilities of RIMS, it added that the institute remains committed to providing quality medical and dental education, advancing specialist healthcare services, and contributing to the development of skilled healthcare professionals for Manipur, the North Eastern Region, and the Nation.
