Imphal, September 09 2025:
Some MLAs are dissatisfied with the measures being taken by the Governor's administration in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Manipur on September 13, and they are unlikely to attend the events addressed by the Prime Minister.
A Kuki MLA told The Sangai Express on the condition of anonymity that BJP legislators who won the 12th Assembly elections on JD(U) tickets viz Kh Joykisan (Thangmeiband), Th Arunkumar (Wangkhei) and Md Ashab Uddin (Jiribam) were not invited to the recent meeting between BJP MLAs and the Governor at Raj Bhavan on September 7 .
However the Governor met MLAs who had joined the BJP after ditching JD (U) during a meeting at Churachandpur today.
LM Khaute (Churachandpur AC) and Ngur-sanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh AC) who had joined the BJP from the JD (U) participated in the Churachandpur meeting apart from other BJP MLAs.
This has sent a very wrong and disturbing message to the MLAs, said the MLA.
He stated that many MLAs from other parties who joined the BJP have been working to restore normalcy in the State but they were not invited to the meeting due to not being considered genuine BJP members.
The MLA questioned the Governor's decision, asking why some BJP MLAs who had won on other party tickets weren't invited, highlighting the apparent inconsistency in the invitation process.
The Kuki MLA further stated that they also wish to attend the event in Imphal, and the Governor administration must take appropriate measures to ensure all MLAs can participate by providing adequate security, he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met a group of MLAs at Churachandpur DC office today.
However, unlike the recent meeting at Raj Bhavan, MLAs who had won on the JD(U) ticket but later joined the BJP, such as LM Khaute (Churachandpur AC) and Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh AC), participated in this meeting apart from other BJP MLAs.
Other MLAs who attended the meeting in Churachandpur were Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon), Let-zamang Haokip (Henglep) and Paolienlal Haokip (Saikul).
BJP Churachandpur unit president Thanglam Haokip also attended the meeting.
The MLA asked why KPA MLA Chinlunthang wasn't invited to today's meeting at Churachandpur.
Emphasising that the Governor should invite all 59 MLAs (one seat currently vacant due to the death of a Tadubi MLA N Kayisii) to both the events at Imphal's Kangla and Churachandpur, he added that any MLA preferring not to artend the function for personal reasons despite receiving an invitation is a different matter.
Even if the MLAs couldn't share the stage with the Prime Minister, arrangements should be made for them to sit together in a dignified manner, he said.
Saying that the Imphal-Dimapur road has been reopened in anticipation of the Prime Minister's visit, the Kuki MLA added that Thadou CSO leaders had also convened a meeting in Imphal during the first week of
the previous month.
