Ratan's houses raided, JAC fumes

Imphal, July 09 2016 : The JAC constituted against the de- claration of wanted tag on former JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan has announced to stage mass sit-in- protests at different localities of Singjamei from 11 am to 4 pm on July 10 and 11. While speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, JAC convenor Th Subhashchandra said that they would announce further course of agitation after the High Court hearing of July 11. He said that even as the JAC has been demanding the Government to revoke the wanted tag before July 8 so that Ratan may take part in the first death anniversary of Sapam Robinhood, police raided Ratan's houses located at Mongkhang Lambi and Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai on July 7 afternoon.

Subhashchandra said that it is condemnable to harass the family members before the High Court hearing scheduled on July 11. It may be mentioned that the High Court had earlier directed the police to submit relevant documents regarding declaration of wanted tag on Ratan.

Subhashchandra also ap- pealed the public to extend support to the mass sit-in-pro- test.

Taking part at the press conference, Ratan's wife Umalini said that she was not in her house during police raid as she went out with her child to offer prayer nearby.

However, two women and a youth were there in the house when police conducted the raid.

The two women just dropped in to meet her while the youth came to her house in connection with making of lucky stone jewellery at the locality, Umalini said.

She said that after the raid, the police allegedly asked them to append signature on a note which stated that no property was lost during the raid.

Police handed over a house search memo to the trio be- fore they left the house, Umalini said and added that the memo stated that Ratan along with his wife have been absconding since June 2. Stating that she never ab- sconded after the declaration of wanted tag on her hus- band, Umalini condemned the allegation labelled against her.

Maintaining that the resi- dents of her locality are the witnesses of her presence in the house, Umalini said that the allegation has tarnished her image.

Th Modhubala, who was present at the house during the raid said that they told the police team that Ratan had left the house on June 2.She further said that the police brought an unidentified youth.

She said that they told the police team that Umalini had just gone out with her child to offer prayer nearby, she added.

Kulabati Devi, the second witness who was present in the house during the raid said that no local was allowed to enter the residential complex during the raid.
