Kamjong presents state of district to Union Minister

The Minister of State (MoS) Defence Sanjay Seth on Wednesday visited Kamjong district Headquarters and reviewed various development projects in the district.
Sanjay Seth landed at Sampui ground, Kamjong at around 12.50 pm .
Accompanied by Addl Secretary of Defence, Jeetendro and his Personal Secretary Rohit Sharma, the Minister was received by DC Kamjong Rangnamei Rang Peter and SP, Kamjong Ningsem Vashum.
The Minister then headed straight to the SDO office complex, where he held a closed door meeting with District Level Officers ( DLOs) and discussed issues facing the district.

ADM Kamjong, HL Jain stated that the Minister of State for Defence listened patiently and assured them their concerns will be apprised to the PMO office.
After the meeting with the DLOs, the Minister held another meeting and interacted with members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) of the district.
Phungyar MLA, Leishiyo Keishing also highlighted various issues of the district to the visiting Minister.
The MLA highlighted issues surrounding the Free Movement Regime, border fencing to the Minister.
He urged the Minister to review the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and settle border disputes first to fence the border and informed the Minister that Manipur had lost large chunks of land to Myanmar when the border was demarcated.
The MLA also urged the Minister to improve connectivity in the region, and appealed to include Kamjong district among the High Priority districts for development.
He informed the Minister that there is a plan for setting up of a model town at K Ashang Khullen Aze in the Indo-Myanmar border region of Kamjong district, and for this project a draft proposal amounting to Rs 601.7 crore has been prepared.
He further mentioned that around 1800 acres of land has been set aside for setting up of an Integrated Check Post (ICP) in the district.
Urging the Central Government to translate the vision of Act East Policy into reality in order to bring tangible development in the border district of the State, he expressed confidence that the meeting with the Minister of State for Defence would have positive outcomes.
As scheduled, the Minister will leave Kamjong tomorrow.
He will hold a meeting with leaders of civil society organisations in the morning.
He will visit some nearby sites before he leaves for Imphal.
