Imphal, March 09 2025:
Categorically stating that Kukis ought not block free movement of people on National Highways if they consider themselves as citizens of India, NPP Manipur president Yumnam Joykumar has asserted that Kukis may go to Myanmar or any other place where they can run their whims in case they have any notion that the place where they are living currently is not a part of India.
Speaking to media persons at their Naoremthong office today, Joykumar pointed out that the place where Kukis are living at present belong to Manipur and Manipur is a part of India.

In line with the directive given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a high level meeting held on March 1 where the Governor, the Chief Secretary and the DGP of Manipur were present, passenger buses were flagged off on Imphal-Kang-pokpi-Senapati and Imphal- Bishnupur-Churachandpur routes on March 8 .
But the MST bus heading to Senapati was blocked by Kukis at different points in Kangpokpi district, he noted. Joykumar also extended condolence and solidarity with the people killed and injured in yesterday's confrontation between protes- ters and security forces.
Kukis must be knowing that all Indian citizens have the right to move anywhere within the country including those places inhabited by Kukis.
Kukis ought not create any obstruction to the Government of India's initiative to resume free movement on all National Highways and other roads if they see themselves as citizens of India, Joykumar asserted.
They ought to respect the Government of India's initiative, he added.
Blocking the National Highway was illegal and unconstitutional.
If the Kukis see themselves as citizens of India, they must respect the Constitution, Joykumar said.
He went on to ask if the Kukis think the places inhabited by them are not within India.
If the Kukis have such a misplaced notion, they may go to Myanmar which is said to be their place of origin or anywhere else where they can do anything they like, the NPP Manipur president said.
He also appealed to the Kukis to stop blocking free movement on National Highways with violence.
Blocking National Highways in the hills to make people in the valley suffer has become a regular phenomenon, he decried.
Joykumar welcomed the Governor's initiative to open National Highways and ensure citizens' Constitutional right of free movement.
NPP general secretaries RK Rameshwar and L Jayananda were also present at the press meet.
