Imphal, January 09 2017:
The present crisis arising out of the ongoing indefinite economic blockade called by United Naga Council (UNC) has been put up at All India Lawyer's Union Meet, said vice-president of All Lawyer's Union Manipur State Committee, M Jagajit.
Addressing reporters at the office of CPI (M) at Governor road today, Jagajit said that the State has been reduced to a war like situation due to the prolonged economic blockade.
He regretted that instead of overcoming the deadlock over the economic blockade, the State Government and the Centre are blaming each other, leaving the general public in the lurch.
Though Manipur is a part of India, the strife-torn State has been ill-treated, he rued.
Jagajit reminded that High Court of Manipur had asked the State Government to take up effective measures to restore normal transportation of goods on the National Highways at the earliest.
The State Government under Section 8B of National Highway Act, 1956 ought to take up legal action against those who are causing hindrances along the National Highways, he pointed out.
Maintaining that the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) should be made public, he asserted that there is a need to closely monitor the Framework Agreement as it threatens the territorial integrity of the State.
The meet unanimously agreed that the Centre should try to bring an emicable solution to the economic blockade as soon as possible otherwise many unwanted incidents may arise out of it, he informed.
He also informed that a seven-member delegation of All Lawyer's Union Manipur State Committee took part in the All India Lawyer's Union Meet which was held at Madurai, Tamil Nadu from December 27 to 29.Resolution of the matters placed by All Lawyer's Union Manipur State Committee will be taken during the All India Lawyer's Union Meet for North Eastern States to be held in Agartala on March 10, Jagajit added.
