DGP's version fails to cut ice with NWU

The Naga Women Union (NWU) has denounced the statement of DGP Y Joykumar as published in local dailies which allegedly encouraged, by justifying the brute and violent actions of Manipur Police commandos and IRB personnel on November 5 against the peaceful and democratic protesters at Luangmai (Noney) .
The statement was concocted with intention to mislead the general public and to justify the violence, loots and slanderous actions of the police.
The present Manipur Police Chief has distinctive records of deceiving not only the public but even the Manipur Legislative Assembly in collusion with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, the NWU asserted in a press release.
It cited the case of July 23 (2009) Khwairamband Killing in which Chungkham Sanjit and Th Rabina were shot dead in broad daylight.
The memory of indiscriminate firing upon peaceful Khumji Naga village on May 28, 2010, inflicting serious injuries to three persons by police commandos is till ringing loud and clear.
The people of Luangmai and adjoining areas were protesting against the MoU signed between the Manipur Government and SHDDC and the attempts to segregate the Naga peoples and its territories under the aegis of United Naga Council.
On November 5, the people of Luangmai area were peacefully and democratically protesting by ensuring general strike.
Well armed commandoes and IRB personnel without any provocation arrived and started violent actions by torching one Tata Sumo bearing registered no.MNO3P 2257 belonging to one Ringjuanang of Thingra village.
They further proceeded to destroy another vehicle belonging to BRTF stationed nearby.
Then the people intervened and tried to reason out.
In the meantime, heavily armed convoys of police re-enforcement arrived and started to open fire, alleged NWU.
The police further proceed to break open many shops, pulled up the occupants and beat them up.
They rampantly looted belongings like cash, gold and other goods, it alleged.
It further accused Imphal based newspapers of conveniently skipping to report the malicious action of the police force.
The Naga Women Union expressed total indignation over the police extreme violent behaviour and added it strongly opposes actions of the police force.

"We express our support and solidarity to all victims of Manipur Police Force.
The struggle for Naga Peoples will continue and cannot be impeded by such divisive, anti-democratic, unlawful and violent conduct of the Manipur Police Force", it added.
