Imphal, August 07 2025:
The North East Indigenous People's Forum (NEIPF) has stated the United Naga Council's (UNC) recent directives against Ashang Kasar, president of the Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM), over the upcoming World Indigenous Day celebration on August 9 is unacceptable.
In a statement, the NEIPF clarified that the World Indigenous Day 2025 celebration is a regional event organized by the Forum, with the IPFM serving as the host.
The UNC's recent objections to the celebration, circulated through social media, have been addressed through a letter clarifying that the event is not a personal matter of Ashang Kasar or IPFM but a regional celebration for the entire North-East, it said and added that UNC allegedly dictating the Naga public not to attend without providing any valid reasons to the Forum is unacceptable.
NEIPF urged the UNC to clarify their stance and provide reasons for their objections to the host IPFM and them.
