Imphal, May 07 2015 : Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has demanded the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) to cancel recognition of those schools, which do not follow the instructions and guidelines of the Board.

Speaking at a press conference held at their office, MSF secretary general Maibam Bidyaraj said that BOSEM issues a list of books for the students of Class I to Class VIII reading in different BOSEM affiliated schools of the State.

All these books are published by different firms of the State except for three books - Moral Science, Magic With Computer and Mathematics Laboratory.

Saying that publication works of these three books are outsourced to different firms of New Delhi due to an inconvenience, he said that Moral Science, Magic With Computer and Mathematics Laboratory are published by Macmillan Publisher Pvt India Ltd, New Delhi, Subhash Benchmark Books Pvt Ltd and Geeta Publishing House, New Delhi respectively.

According to the instruction of BOSEM, all the approved books including these three books must be taught in all the schools affiliated to the Board.

Although, most of the schools follow this guideline, some schools in connivance with some private firms publish their own books for their students, he added.

Bidyaraj said that this violation of BOSEM's guideline must be stopped by May 10 adding that a special drive to seize the unapproved books would be carried in all the schools of the State soon.

Urging the Board to cancel recognition of these schools which do not follow the instructions/guidelines of the Board, Bidyaraj said that all the seized books would be handed over to BOSEM.

Regarding SSA, Bidyaraj said that according to the book list issued by BOSEM, five books must be read in Class-I .

However, Government provides only three books to students free of cost under the scheme, he added.

Maintaining that the Government does not issue the required number of books to the students of other classes as well under SSA, Bidyaraj urged the Government to provide all these books including Moral Science, Magic With Computer and Mathematics Laboratory free of cost to the students of Government schools.

Saying that the Government sanctions funds to SSA at the rate of Rs 150 per student of lower primary schools and Rs 250 per student of upper primary schools, Bidyaraj questioned SSA why the authority of the scheme does not complain to the Government if this amount is not enough to purchase the required books.
