Imphal, April 07 2009: As in other parts of the globe, the World Health Day was also observed in Manipur under theme of 'Save Lives, make Hospitals safe in Emergencies' today.

The Directorate of Health Services joined hands with the Manipur Voluntary Health Association in observing the World Health Day at the conference hall of the Association today.

The function was attended by Director of Health Services Dr W Motilal as chief guest and secretary of Manipur Voluntary Health Association M Saratchandra as functional president.

All those who spoke at the occasion stressed on the importance of coming to the hospitals and other health centres for treatment in emergency cases.

Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch also observed the World Health Day at its Lamphel hall today with Director of RIMS Prof L Fimate as chief guest and State president of Indian Medical Association Prof AD Singh as functional president.

After the welcome address given by the vice president of the Association Dr Kh Palin, the Medical Superintendent of RIMS Prof Y Mohen delivered the key note address.

The address of the Director General of World Health Organisation (WHO) given in connection with the World Health Day observance was also read out at the occasion.

Empowerment of Community for Human Education and Multitude Advancement and Action & Implementation for Development also jointly observed the World Health Day at the auditorium of Leimayol Art Centre at Chingamakha today.

Member of Manipur Human Rights Commission Ng Nongyai, Project Director of Manipur State AIDS Control Society Dr K Pramod and Senior Psychiatrist Dr RK Kumarjit were respectively chief guest, president and guest of honour of the function.

Educated and self Employed Women's Social Service Association also observed the World Health Day at the conference hall of Sub-DIC of the Association located at Ningthoukhong Bazar today.

The event was attended by CMO of Bishnupur District Dr Gulapi Singh as chief guest, Project Director of the Association A Bimol Singh as president and DTO of Bishnupur District Dr Rabindra Singh as guest of honour.

Nutritional support items were also distributed to six persons who are living with HIV and TB at the occasion.
